Bard College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in abnormal psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2018. This position is ideal for a candidate whose research draws on or contributes to the understanding of fundamental psychological processes (e.g., neural mechanisms, emotion/motivation, perception, attention) and makes direct connections to programs in the natural sciences, mathematics, or computing. A degree in clinical psychology is not required for the position, although direct experience with atypical populations is desired.
Responsibilities will include teaching introductory courses and upper-level seminars in the candidate's area of expertise, as well as Introduction to Psychological Science, and Statistics or Research Methods, and the advising of Senior Projects. The successful candidate will have a commitment to quality, innovative undergraduate teaching at a liberal arts college; maintain an active research program to which undergraduates make meaningful contributions; contribute to the general education curriculum; and engage with the life of the college. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. by the time of the appointment. Responsible and energetic caregiver needed for 15-year-old boy with Asperger's Syndrome at the teen's home near Tysons Corner. The hours are roughly from 3:30-7:30 p.m., 3-4 days a week. The boy will need help with school work and staying on task, engaging in recreational activities/games, help with maintaining his safety in the home and the community, and promoting social skills. The teen is engaging, gentle, naïve, social but without much social skills, and loves animals and music.

Seeking motivated individual to help teach a 10 year old boy with Autism and visual impairment. Wonderful learning opportunity for a student interested in the fields of Autism, special education, or behavioral psychology. Experience in behavioral therapy (Applied Behavioral Analysis) is helpful, but not necessary. Will be working jointly with Registered Behavior technicians (RBTs), BCBA (Board certified Behavior Analyst) and speech therapist. Also will be translating skills learned at school to the home environment. Focus will be on reduction of self-injurious behavior, teaching communication with sign language and speech-generating device, and increasing adaptive skills like toileting, dressing, etc.
We live in Vienna, about 15-20 minutes from campus (own car is helpful). Rate will be determined by level of experience and goodness of fit, but minimum rate of $12/hour. Hours are flexibile, but 3-7 pm on some weekdays as well as any weekend time available is what we are hoping for. Hoping for a start date in late August.
