The Communications department is looking to hire someone who is dedicated to student success and who is interested in helping advise undergraduate Communication students. Those hired will learn Degree Works, attend MAC classes, and learn all COMM major program and general education degree requirements in order to assist undergraduate COMM students in reaching their academic goals. They will be mentored. Those hired will be able to make their own schedule weekly between the hours of 9am-5pm for 30 minute appointments. They need someone who is detail oriented, who is comfortable in stressful situations, has strong interpersonal communication skills, someone who can negotiate conflict, and who is energetic. This person must have a B.A. or B.S, although it does not need to be in COMM. They would prefer to hire someone who envisions being there longer than one or two semesters, but that is not a deal-breaker ;o) You must be able to prove you are able to legally work according to the State of VA hiring rules if you are a TA or an RA because of the 29-hour per week law. Students will have a chance to select from a variety of breakout sessions that will focus specifically on areas of ethical leadership, understanding one’s own personal narrative and values, student advocacy, engagement, as well as systematic structures and policies that exist that impact student resiliency and well-being. The conference will take place on Saturday, October 21st in The Hub, Ballroom at George Mason University. Students will be able to enhance leadership skills they already have, while gaining new skills that will be of benefit both now and in the future. Participation in the conference will give students the chance to interact, engage, and connect with other student leaders, as well as faculty and staff. Leadership Mason will create a space where students will develop an awareness of leadership qualities they would like to develop and foster within themselves and others. Research Project Manager We are seeking a Research Project Manager to join our growing team conducting high-impact pediatric research in a fast-paced and mission-focused research environment. Our research focuses on improving the lives of young children, especially those who are at risk for poor neurodevelopmental, behavioral, or growth outcomes. Our work is funded by the NIH, CDC, HRSA, and the March of Dimes. The Research Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination for multiple complex pediatric clinical research projects including a clinical trial, with a special focus on regulatory compliance (IRB, FDA) and data management and analysis using SAS. The research is multi-disciplinary (behavioral sciences, public health, nutrition) and focuses on the development, growth and behavior of young children. This position requires daily work with the Principal Investigator and close contact with Co-Investigators and other internal and external contacts and day-to-day supervision of a team of research assistants/research associates. Knowledge, skills and abilities required: 1. Master’s degree in behavioral, clinical or biological sciences or public health. Recent PhD also appropriate. 2. Three or more years of academic and/or professional experience in clinical research. 3. Experience working with children under age 6 years and their families. 4. Experience managing multiple projects successfully. 5. Excellent skills in writing, communications, and presentation graphics knowledge required. 6. Excellent communication and organization skills to effectively interact with medical staff, consultants, external professionals, administrators, and employees at all levels.
