Learning Strategist for the Mason Autism Support Initiative (MASI) in Disability Services.7/26/2018 The MASI program (Mason Autism Support Initiative) is hiring to fill a Learning Strategist position for the 2018-2019 academic year. This position is part time and the pay is $20/hour.
Responsibilities: The Mason Autism Support Initiative, a program offered through Disability Services, offers individualized, comprehensive social and academic supports to motivated Mason students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in order to guide them through the transition into university life, and assist them in building skills necessary for success in the university environment and beyond. We encourage development of self-advocacy and college-level independent living skills by providing individual and group support within a collaborative model. The Learning Strategist meets and corresponds with students regularly and consistently to provide support with many aspects of university life, depending on their individual needs. Areas of support include:
The Learning Strategist spends 1 to 2 hours weekly working with students during individual face to face meetings. Additional responsibilities may include check-ins via email, text, and/or phone with students, faculty, staff and/or parents. Position will require approximately 10-15 hours each week. Learning Strategists are assigned 5-7students. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have an understanding of disabilities, particularly ASD, as well as:
Preferred qualifications include: experience working with individuals with ASD or other related disabilities; familiarity with the field of higher education (ideally some experience working at a college or university); a demonstrated understanding of common needs of individuals with ASD, particularly young adults; experience working with college students; and knowledge of issues regarding transition from high school to postsecondary education for students with disabilities.
