The Psychosocial Research Program at Butler Hospital is looking to hire full-time research assistants to work on studies related to psychosocial interventions for a variety of clinical populations recruited from a psychiatric hospital setting (i.e., people with major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and comorbid substance use disorders). The research assistant will primarily work on randomized controlled trials testing the effectiveness and implementation of novel transitions of care interventions for people being discharged from a psychiatric hospital to improve recovery. These include therapist-administered and mHealth-focused interventions. There also is a strong emphasis on suicide prevention in this work.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field by the start of the position. The position is particularly attractive for those wishing to pursue graduate or medical school in the future. Opportunities to publish papers and present at professional conferences are available and encouraged. Our previous research assistants have been highly successful in gaining acceptance to top-tier doctoral programs in clinical psychology and related fields after completing the position. The program is comprised of academic psychologists, a psychiatrist, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, master’s-level interventionists, and project coordinators. Research in this group is currently funded by numerous federal and private grants, and the majority of this work centers on post-hospital transitions, suicide prevention, digital health, mindfulness/acceptance therapies, mood and psychotic disorders, and comorbid conditions (addiction and physical health problems) conducted in a variety of clinical settings. Job Description Brown University-affiliated researchers working at Butler Hospital are seeking to hire a research assistant for grant-funded studies of transitions of care interventions (mHealth, suicide prevention, treatment adherence) for patients with bipolar disorder, depression, suicidal behaviors, psychosis, and comorbid substance abuse. Responsibilities include recruiting and tracking subjects, screening electronic medical records, managing databases, preparing reports, and conducting research assessments with psychiatric patients. Additional duties include working with a multidisciplinary team conducting research in a psychiatric hospital setting. Skills using Microsoft Office, SPSS, and REDCap a plus. Required Education Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field required. Experience with psychology research and/or working with psychiatric patients desirable.
