Dear graduate students of psychology,
On April 27, 2017 at 1:30pm, Dr. Kevin Clark sponsored by the University Libraries, will speak about his recent research on African-American teens missing out on digital innovations. Based on a new national survey, young African-Americans may be missing out on key opportunities to learn to code, develop apps and software, and innovate with technology. (http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2016/11/16/african-american-teens-missing-out-on-digital-innovation.html). Dr. Clark is a professor at Mason's College of Education and Human Development and also the Director of Center for Digital Media Innovation and Diversity (https://cdmid.gmu.edu). Dr. Clark would talk about this research in detail and answer audience questions. The speech will be held in the Fenwick Library’s Main Reading Room (2001). The presentation and question and answer session will last about an hour. " We look forward to seeing more graduate students attend this event. Thanks! ******************************* Andrew Y. The school, one of the first laboratory preschools in the United States, was established in 1913 to provide an exemplary educational environment for young children and to offer a high quality setting for research and training in child development, with a child-centered, play-based curriculum consistent with principles of developmentally appropriate practice.
The school has a professional teaching staff of 3 Lead Teachers, 3 Assistant Teachers, and approximately 50 undergraduate student teachers. Ten to twenty research projects are conducted at the center every year, and the school manages approximately 3,000 visitors per year (including researchers, undergraduates doing coursework, professionals, and parents). Each year, 44 children are enrolled. The school runs for 9 months of the year, and offers a three-hour morning program five days per week and an extended day option two days per week. More information about the Child Study Center is available on our website, http://www.wellesley.edu/ChildStudy/index.html The Faculty Director of the Child Study Center has full responsibility for the operations of the school. The CSC is a model early childhood program for ages 2-5, a learning environment for the training of undergraduate students, and a research laboratory setting where students and families participate in academic research projects. As a member of the Psychology Department, the Faculty Director facilitates the operation of the CSC as an active laboratory for undergraduate education and faculty research and works directly with undergraduates doing independent and thesis research. The Faculty Director will teach one course per year in the Education Department, supervise student interns and advise students seeking licensure. The Faculty Director reports directly to the Dean of Academic Affairs regarding the administration of the school.
