We are currently accepting applications for an internship opportunity with at the Institute for National Strategic Studies at the National Defense University at Fort McNair in DC for the Spring and Summer of 2018. Dr. Bowles, a clinical psychologist and former Colonel in the Army, will be providing mentorship through the non-paid internship. Intern National Defense University, Internship applications of highly motivated undergraduate and graduate psychology students and interested graduate students are currently being accepted for the Institute for National Strategic Studies at the National Defense University. If accepted, students will be members of the Leadership Fitness Lab and work with Dr. (COL Ret.) Stephen Bowles on various topics including: * Emotional Intelligence, Personality and Performance * Military Couples Resilience, PTSD * Leadership * Yoga, Resilience, and Dreams * Psychological Healthy Workplace * Well-being Responsibilities include: * Literature reviews, power point presentations, posters, manuscript editing and writing * Preparing publication submissions * Coordination of articles with co-authors * Organizing of literature review, manuscripts and other relevant research material * Data base entry/management/data analysis Hours preferred: * 12-16 hours per week during school year * 36 hours per week during summer This can be flexible depending on class and work schedules. We are looking for someone with an interest in research, particularly in military-related psychology, but not necessarily exclusive to that topic. The main responsibilities would be to provide transportation and social support for the young lady to get out of the house more.
Below is a list of the primary responsibilities of the position: · Meet a 26 year old female client inside her family’s household in Great Falls, VA (1-2 times / week) · Support client in discussing feelings as well as with activities such as cooking, reading / writing as needed · Encourage other coping skills if she is interested in extra medications then retrieving and returning the key to a lock box for “as needed” medications if still requested · Provide transportation to the client (a valid driver’s license is necessary, however, a car is available for use with the client during work hours) · Provide company in getting out of the house at night for activities such as seeing a movie or socializing with new people at restaurants/bars · A personality which is intuitive, friendly, resourceful, patient, firm when needed yet flexible with less important matters would be ideal · An interest in dogs is preferred as we are training a service dog · Prior experience offering mental health care support preferred If interested, please contact Laura Feibelman at [email protected]. |
