This two-day workshop will bring together different perspectives on event cognition, joining forces from the fields of (psycho-)linguistics and language typology (including multimodal communication), neuroscience (perception, action and memory) and developmental science. We aim to identify general principles in event cognition shaped by our underlying neurobiological and cognitive infrastructure, and the domains in which the human capacity for language(taking into account cross-linguistic diversity and multimodality) may influence event perception and understanding.
The workshop will be organized in thematic sessions, with invited lectures and discussions by renowned scholars, plus a poster session. Confirmed invited speakers Gerry Altmann (University of Connecticut) Silvia Gennari (University of York) Sarah Gerson (Cardiff University) Peter Hagoort (MPI & Donders) Angeliek van Hout (University of Groningen) Yuki Kamide (University of Dundee) Anna Papafragou (University of Delaware) Brent Strickland (ENS & Institut Jean Nicod) Christiane von Stutterheim (Heidelberg University) Jeffrey Zacks (Washington University, St. Louis) Call for submissions We invite submissions of anonymous abstracts for paper or poster presentations on recent work on one or more of the workshop themes. We also welcome submissions for poster presentations on ongoing work or new project proposals. Submissions should be in Word or PDF format, maximally 500 words (excluding references), and sent to [email protected] Abstract submission deadline: ** June 15, 2017 ** (extended) Notification of acceptance: July 15, 2017 Workshop dates: October 27-28, 2017 Location: Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen, The Netherlands Workshop organizers: Monique Flecken (MPI) Ercenur Ünal (Radboud & MPI) Aslı Özyürek (Radboud & MPI) Website: http://www.mpi.nl/events/evrep We gratefully acknowledge funding by the MPI for Psycholinguistics and by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) (VICI grant).

The GaabLab (gaablab.com) at the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School invites applications for a post-doctoral associate position in the area of developmental cognitive neuroscience/pediatric (f)MRI. The candidate will be expected to oversee the analysis of pediatric and infant (f)MRI experiments, analyze behavioral and (f)MRI data, develop new analysis tools, prepare manuscripts for publication, and participate in conferences. The current projects in the lab aim to characterize trajectories of early structural, functional and metabolic brain development in infants and young children. Participant populations include infants/young children who grow up in adverse environments, young children exposed to alcohol in uterus or children with a genetic or behavioral risk to develop language-based learning disabilities. The successful applicant should have a doctoral degree in a field related to developmental cognitive neuroscience (e.g., cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, psychology, developmental psychology, medicine) or a background in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or computer science. The successful applicant must possess excellent English verbal and written communication skills. Applicants are expected to have a very strong research background in the design and analysis of functional brain-imaging experiments. Experience with (f)MRI analyses programs (e.g., SPM, FSL, Freesurfer, AFNI) a must. Programming skills (MATLAB, C++; Python) are desirable and experience with MVPA or connectivity analyses a plus. Experience with the analysis of pediatric neuroimaging data sets and language and reading research are useful. Approximate start date is summer/ fall 2017. Successful applicants will be appointed at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. For consideration please send a statement of interest, a CV and a list of three potential referees via email to Nadine Gaab, PhD ([email protected]). The search will continue until the position is filled.

HRSA T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Primary Care Research The New York University School of Medicine is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for our Fellowship in Primary Care Research beginning July 1, 2017. This is an interdisciplinary, two-year, HRSA T32-funded fellowship program that prepares individuals holding doctorates (MD, PhD) to become leaders in primary care translational research. The fellowship confers a Master’s of Science in Clinical Investigation degree upon successful completion of program requirements. The fellowship is especially relevant for individuals with a doctorate in a field related to early child development (e.g., developmental psychology, early childhood education) as it provides an opportunity to learn about the application of developmental principles within a real-world health care environment. The Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, within the Department of Pediatrics, is nationally recognized for its research focusing on poverty-related disparities in early child development and school readiness. The postdoctoral candidate for this position would join the Bellevue Project for Early Language, Literacy, and Education Success (BELLE Project), directed by Alan Mendelsohn, MD. This laboratory is dedicated in part to developing and evaluating interventions aimed at promoting parent-child interactions to enhance school readiness in low-income children. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers brings together experts from a wide range of fields, including developmental psychology and education, in collaboration with clinical experts in fields such as general and developmental-behavioral pediatrics, to investigate the role of pediatric primary health care as a universal-platform for population-scaleable preventive interventions to enhance responsive parenting. Additional details about our research and publications can be found at belle.med.nyu.edu. In the innovative Masters of Science degree program, fellows develop content mastery through courses including Research Methods, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, Medical Informatics, Clinical Trial Design, and Grant Writing. Fellows participate in Research in Progress seminars, Journal Clubs, and Integrative Seminars. There are substantial opportunities for mentored research leading to presentations at local and national meetings, manuscripts for publication, and grant applications, as well as opportunities for collaborations with researchers and community partners at NYU / NYU School of Medicine and elsewhere. Fellows will receive a stipend and a complete benefits package. Full tuition is covered for the Masters of Science degree program, along with an allowance for books, travel, and other related program expenses. Initial inquiries should be emailed to Caitlin Canfield, PhD ([email protected]), and should include a CV and cover letter. Please write “T32 Fellowship Application” in the subject line. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Note that Spanish proficiency is desirable but not required. For details about the formal application and full requirements, please see: http://www.med.nyu.edu/pediatrics/genpeds/clinical-education/fellowship-program/application-process (Note: A medical degree/license is NOT required for this specific position) To apply, please see: https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/118374
